Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.31% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ACC Ltd (NS:ACC), which rose 3.22% or 53.20 points to trade at 1705.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 2.55% or 10.45 points to end at 420.30 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 2.29% or 5.85 points to 261.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which fell 1.47% or 36.35 points to trade at 2439.45 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 0.97% or 13.45 points to end at 1376.70 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was down 0.72% or 27.10 points to 3718.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 2.04% to 1129.70, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 1.80% to settle at 370.05 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.59% to close at 162.85.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.33% to 2439.10 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 0.97% to settle at 1376.60 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.51% to 328.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 898 to 663 and 14 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1433 rose and 1178 declined, while 145 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.55% or 10.45 to 420.30. Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) rose to all time highs; rising 2.04% or 22.55 to 1129.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.49% to 11.0525.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 2.02 to $1216.72 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.53% or 0.69 to hit $45.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.35% or 0.64 to trade at $48.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 64.550, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 73.9453.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 95.49.
