Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.26%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 2.70% or 24.70 points to trade at 939.35 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 2.25% or 26.20 points to end at 1,190.85 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 2.12% or 69.15 points to 3,329.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which fell 3.63% or 36.95 points to trade at 980.80 at the close. Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) declined 1.52% or 50.80 points to end at 3,287.45 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was down 1.47% or 3.25 points to 217.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.71% to 939.45, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 2.31% to settle at 1,191.60 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 2.06% to close at 2,167.30.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.57% to 980.95 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 1.56% to settle at 217.75 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.90% to 3,350.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 986 to 892 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1776 rose and 1594 declined, while 126 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.83% to 13.40 a new 52-week low.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.18% or 3.25 to $1,794.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.87% or 0.63 to hit $72.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.55 to trade at $77.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.25% to 82.41, while EUR/INR rose 0.24% to 86.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 105.28.
