Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.22%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.31%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 6.98% or 34.30 points to trade at 525.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 4.15% or 48.75 points to end at 1222.90 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 3.46% or 8.50 points to 254.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 2.42% or 22.70 points to trade at 914.55 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 1.80% or 30.60 points to end at 1664.90 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 1.79% or 8.30 points to 454.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 4.10% to 1220.50, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.56% to settle at 254.50 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.83% to close at 181.65.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 1.54% to 415.80 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 1.37% to settle at 926.75 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.07% to 534.45 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 874 to 698 and 22 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1426 rose and 1244 declined, while 121 ended unchanged.
Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.83% or 5.00 to 181.65.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.96% to 11.5900.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.94 to $1279.96 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.77% or 0.40 to hit $52.30 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.47 to trade at $57.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 65.085, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 76.4660.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 93.75.
