Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.21% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.15%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 3.85% or 13.40 points to trade at 361.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 3.50% or 18.30 points to end at 540.50 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.03% or 6.80 points to 341.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 2.78% or 80.80 points to trade at 2,827.00 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) declined 2.07% or 113.45 points to end at 5,375.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was down 1.36% or 2.25 points to 163.08.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 3.84% to 362.00, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 1.85% to settle at 1,647.00 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.79% to close at 423.50.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.76% to 2,827.00 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.36% to settle at 163.10 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.20% to 862.30 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1670 to 801 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2283 fell and 1507 advanced, while 88 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.38% to 12.94.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.27% or 6.80 to $2,479.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.74% or 0.58 to hit $78.49 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.63 to trade at $81.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.74, while EUR/INR fell 0.30% to 90.34.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 104.16.
