Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 4.61% or 28.00 points to trade at 635.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 3.83% or 11.55 points to end at 313.40 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 3.20% or 92.10 points to 2,968.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which fell 2.83% or 45.95 points to trade at 1,578.00 at the close. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) declined 1.46% or 16.15 points to end at 1,092.20 and Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was down 1.36% or 15.90 points to 1,150.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 3.76% to 313.00, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 3.16% to settle at 2,968.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.67% to close at 167.70.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 2.78% to 1,578.65 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.38% to settle at 1,304.60 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.26% to 1,151.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1122 to 1077 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1870 fell and 1824 advanced, while 115 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.47% to 13.44.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.26% or 6.10 to $2,304.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.65% or 0.51 to hit $79.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.61 to trade at $84.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 83.46, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 89.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 105.67.
