Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Metals and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.18%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 2.65% or 71.15 points to trade at 2,756.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) added 2.49% or 29.35 points to end at 1,206.90 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 1.60% or 23.45 points to 1,486.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which fell 1.35% or 7.10 points to trade at 519.25 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 1.25% or 5.10 points to end at 403.85 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 1.22% or 13.20 points to 1,072.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.60% to 1,487.65, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.38% to settle at 154.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.38% to close at 1,190.90.

The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 1.22% to 519.25 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.20% to settle at 403.80 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.20% to 2,736.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1562 to 974 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2339 rose and 1468 declined, while 85 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.44% to 13.01.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.14% or 3.55 to $2,543.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.25% or 0.18 to hit $72.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.31 to trade at $76.36 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.93, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 93.47.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 101.16.
