Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.96% or 24.20 points to trade at 636.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 3.92% or 52.80 points to end at 1,399.50 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 3.87% or 32.95 points to 884.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which fell 5.61% or 65.80 points to trade at 1,107.55 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 1.27% or 30.05 points to end at 2,340.10 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was down 1.16% or 101.80 points to 8,694.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.89% to 165.75, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.75% to settle at 290.00 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 1.63% to close at 1,842.75.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.07% to 3,832.65 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.01% to settle at 1,188.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.72% to 12,900.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1338 to 832 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2155 rose and 1516 declined, while 106 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) rose to all time highs; up 3.96% or 24.20 to 636.00. Shares in JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) rose to all time highs; up 3.87% or 32.95 to 884.30.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.78% to 10.27.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.51% or 11.95 to $2,330.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.41% or 0.34 to hit $83.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.24 to trade at $88.18 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 83.29, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 89.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 105.65.
