Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.12% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.69% or 12.60 points to trade at 354.35 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) added 2.81% or 16.65 points to end at 608.95 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.68% or 7.30 points to 279.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.81% or 108.40 points to trade at 3,751.95 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 2.24% or 18.95 points to end at 826.00 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 2.06% or 31.80 points to 1,515.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.72% to 354.55, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.51% to settle at 294.10 and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which gained 1.42% to close at 6,329.75.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.75% to 1,926.80 in late trade, LTIMindtree Ltd (BO:LTIM) which lost 1.56% to settle at 5,210.55 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.45% to 152.90 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1545 to 651 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2465 fell and 1349 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged.

Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to all time highs; up 3.72% or 12.70 to 354.55. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; up 2.51% or 7.20 to 294.10.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.47% to 14.92.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 3.90 to $2,091.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $79.91 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $83.57 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 82.90, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 89.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 103.79.
