Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.09% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which rose 3.68% or 44.95 points to trade at 1,265.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 3.59% or 5.45 points to end at 157.05 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 3.13% or 269.20 points to 8,875.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 4.02% or 79.15 points to trade at 1,891.50 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.40% or 15.35 points to end at 623.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was down 1.60% or 48.00 points to 2,958.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.83% to 157.15, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 2.02% to settle at 1,583.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.83% to close at 6,427.00.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.86% to 1,892.80 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 1.57% to settle at 2,958.85 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.34% to 1,110.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1311 to 856 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2015 rose and 1645 declined, while 113 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.77% to 13.61 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.28% or 5.95 to $2,164.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.68% or 0.54 to hit $78.59 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.59 to trade at $82.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.10% to 82.74, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 90.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 103.19.
