Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Construction, Industrials and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.97%, while the MDAX index lost 0.56%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.39%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn), which rose 0.88% or 0.295 points to trade at 33.990 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 0.78% or 0.250 points to end at 32.115 and Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) was up 0.63% or 0.53 points to 84.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG), which fell 11.75% or 0.370 points to trade at 2.779 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 3.92% or 3.45 points to end at 84.49 and MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) was down 3.71% or 5.75 points to 149.15.
The top performers on the MDAX were GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which rose 2.97% to 30.460, Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which was up 2.16% to settle at 57.64 and Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which gained 1.53% to close at 66.28.
The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 5.05% to 97.700 in late trade, Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which lost 4.33% to settle at 37.740 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) which was down 4.32% to 6.286 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 3.55% to 11.613, S&T AG (DE:SANT1) which was up 1.76% to settle at 24.26 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 0.90% to close at 313.600.
The worst performers were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 11.75% to 2.779 in late trade, Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which lost 5.05% to settle at 97.700 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COP1n) which was down 2.81% to 70.850 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 421 to 236 and 85 ended unchanged.
Shares in GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.97% or 0.880 to 30.460. Shares in Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.55% or 0.398 to 11.613.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.92% to 31.78.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.72% or 12.95 to $1822.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.81% or 0.33 to hit $40.95 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.25 to trade at $43.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.60% to 1.1338, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8995.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 96.407.
