Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.81%, while the MDAX index lost 0.47%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which rose 1.00% or 0.140 points to trade at 14.205 at the close. Meanwhile, Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) added 0.72% or 0.300 points to end at 42.240 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) was up 0.41% or 0.260 points to 64.210 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which fell 2.69% or 0.233 points to trade at 8.438 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) declined 2.30% or 0.575 points to end at 24.420 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) was down 2.18% or 2.850 points to 128.050.
The top performers on the MDAX were Tui AG NA (DE:TUIGn) which rose 4.98% to 13.715, Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE:TLXGn) which was up 1.97% to settle at 30.010 and Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which gained 1.24% to close at 49.230.
The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 6.52% to 12.330 in late trade, Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (DE:KD8Gn) which lost 3.43% to settle at 98.500 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 2.61% to 43.730 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 8.91% to 4.253, Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which was up 3.08% to settle at 3.175 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which gained 1.70% to close at 42.405.
The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 4.24% to 43.855 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which lost 3.70% to settle at 6.645 and Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which was down 2.63% to 36.045 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 495 to 334 and 28 ended unchanged.
Shares in Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (DE:KD8Gn) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.43% or 3.500 to 98.500.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.36% to 20.82.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.63% or 7.80 to $1236.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.68% or 0.26 to hit $38.58 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.40 to trade at $40.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.47% to 1.1391, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.7917.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 94.50.
