Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Financial Services and Telecom sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.32% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index added 1.51%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.47%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG), which rose 3.98% or 1.445 points to trade at 37.760 at the close. Meanwhile, Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) added 3.54% or 6.900 points to end at 201.550 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) was up 3.29% or 3.120 points to 98.040 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG), which fell 1.09% or 0.700 points to trade at 63.510 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) declined 1.03% or 0.500 points to end at 48.035 and Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) was down 0.27% or 0.230 points to 86.500.

The top performers on the MDAX were DMG Mori Seiki AG (XETRA:GILG) which rose 12.62% to 28.820, Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which was up 5.56% to settle at 89.600 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which gained 4.17% to close at 23.600.

The worst performers were Krones AG O.N. (XETRA:KRNG) which was down 5.10% to 79.900 in late trade, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which lost 1.85% to settle at 35.025 and Gerresheimer AG (XETRA:GXId) which was down 1.32% to 47.130 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which rose 4.74% to 11.500, Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which was up 2.82% to settle at 2.991 and Software AG O.N. (XETRA:SOWG) which gained 2.71% to close at 22.760.

The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 1.87% to 236.500 in late trade, Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which lost 1.65% to settle at 44.620 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was down 1.41% to 21.250 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 523 to 201 and 20 ended unchanged.

Shares in Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) rose to all time highs; up 3.54% or 6.900 to 201.550. Shares in Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) rose to all time highs; up 3.29% or 3.120 to 98.040. Shares in DMG Mori Seiki AG (XETRA:GILG) rose to all time highs; rising 12.62% or 3.230 to 28.820.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 14.18% to 19.61.

Gold for February delivery was up 0.69% or 8.90 to $1302.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 2.85% or 1.36 to hit $46.42 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.41 to trade at $48.62 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.75% to 1.1406, while EUR/GBP fell 1.13% to 0.7580.

The US Dollar Index was up 1.21% at 94.14.
