Germany stocks higher at close of trade

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Food & Beverage, Utilities and Financial Services sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.35% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index gained 0.60%, and the TecDAX index added 0.20%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which rose 4.40% or 0.990 points to trade at 23.500 at the close. Meanwhile, Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) added 2.90% or 0.585 points to end at 20.735 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was up 2.84% or 5.300 points to 191.800 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which fell 2.96% or 0.435 points to trade at 14.245 at the close. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (XETRA:HEIG) declined 2.68% or 1.660 points to end at 60.240 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) was down 1.50% or 0.160 points to 10.540.

The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) which rose 3.97% to 29.36, Tag Immobilien AG (XETRA:TEGG) which was up 3.79% to settle at 10.945 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which gained 3.53% to close at 10.545.

The worst performers were Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which was down 2.55% to 57.350 in late trade, Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (XETRA:KD8Gn) which lost 1.72% to settle at 114.000 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which was down 1.56% to 48.205 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which rose 2.32% to 22.700, Qiagen NV (XETRA:QGEN) which was up 1.61% to settle at 20.455 and Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which gained 1.36% to close at 32.510.

The worst performers were Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was down 3.19% to 46.770 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which lost 2.69% to settle at 7.732 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which was down 2.66% to 12.080 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 436 to 295 and 20 ended unchanged.

Shares in Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) rose to all time highs; up 3.97% or 1.12 to 29.36. Shares in Tag Immobilien AG (XETRA:TEGG) rose to 3-year highs; up 3.79% or 0.400 to 10.945. Shares in Qiagen NV (XETRA:QGEN) rose to all time highs; rising 1.61% or 0.325 to 20.455. Shares in Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.69% or 0.214 to 7.732. Shares in Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) rose to all time highs; rising 1.36% or 0.435 to 32.510.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 22.62.

Gold for February delivery was up 1.05% or 13.30 to $1278.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in February rose 2.42% or 1.12 to hit $47.37 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 1.54% or 0.74 to trade at $49.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.82% to 1.1536, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.7617.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.61% at 93.08.
