Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecom, Basic Resources and Media sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.51%, while the MDAX index gained 0.85%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.52%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn), which rose 2.85% or 0.360 points to trade at 12.990 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) added 2.45% or 1.440 points to end at 60.290 and Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) was up 2.27% or 1.780 points to 80.220 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG), which fell 0.96% or 0.200 points to trade at 20.605 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG) declined 0.96% or 0.590 points to end at 60.570 and RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) was down 0.82% or 0.200 points to 24.105.

The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which rose 3.21% to 43.973, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which was up 2.86% to settle at 14.205 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which gained 2.51% to close at 22.915.
The worst performers were Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (XETRA:WING) which was down 1.46% to 39.120 in late trade, Metro AG ST O.N. (XETRA:MEOG) which lost 1.29% to settle at 24.165 and Brenntag AG (XETRA:BNRGn) which was down 1.10% to 44.215 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which rose 3.71% to 44.400, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which was up 2.98% to settle at 101.950 and BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which gained 2.83% to close at 209.050.
The worst performers were LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was down 2.78% to 10.500 in late trade, Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which lost 2.67% to settle at 10.220 and Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which was down 1.91% to 75.440 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 430 to 288 and 21 ended unchanged.

Shares in RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) fell to 52 weeks lows; down 0.82% or 0.200 to 24.105.
Shares in BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) rose to all time highs; up 2.83% or 5.750 to 209.050.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.78% to 23.42.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.50% or 6.10 to $1213.30 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.65% or 0.79 to hit $48.72 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.04 to trade at $51.15 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.56% to 1.1823, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.7844.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 92.37.
