Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 5.94% to hit a new 5-year low, while the SBF 120 index declined 5.43%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Dassault Systemes SE (PA:DAST), which rose 5.49% or 6.05 points to trade at 116.30 at the close. Meanwhile, EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX) added 3.30% or 3.20 points to end at 100.10 and Danone SA (PA:DANO) was up 2.89% or 1.68 points to 59.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Safran SA (PA:SAF), which fell 22.87% or 15.76 points to trade at 53.14 at the close. Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR) declined 22.17% or 13.97 points to end at 49.06 and STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) was down 13.89% or 2.25 points to 13.95.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were DBV Technologies (PA:DBV) which rose 27.80% to 5.24, Genfit (PA:GNFT) which was up 19.27% to settle at 11.82 and Solvay SA (BR:SOLB) which gained 16.05% to close at 66.36.
The worst performers were Safran SA (PA:SAF) which was down 22.87% to 53.14 in late trade, Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR) which lost 22.17% to settle at 49.06 and CNP Assurances SA (PA:CNPP) which was down 21.92% to 5.42 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 343 to 260 and 64 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 5.81% to 64.74.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 2.38% or 36.25 to $1489.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 21.00% or 5.74 to hit $21.59 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 12.63% or 3.63 to trade at $25.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.35% to 1.0847, while EUR/GBP rose 2.18% to 0.9321.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.79% at 101.593.
