Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 2.92%, while the SBF 120 index declined 2.91%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP), which fell 0.57% or 1.60 points to trade at 279.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) fell 1.27% or 0.84 points to end at 65.48 and Dassault Systemes SE (PA:DAST) was down 1.61% or 2.45 points to 150.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 7.66% or 0.75 points to trade at 9.02 at the close. Renault SA (PA:RENA) declined 6.48% or 1.45 points to end at 20.91 and WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) was down 6.42% or 3.50 points to 51.00.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Albioma SA (PA:ABIO) which rose 1.97% to 36.25, Maisons du Monde SAS (PA:MDM) which was up 1.05% to settle at 11.50 and Soitec SA (PA:SOIT) which gained 0.84% to close at 96.10.

The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which was down 7.66% to 9.02 in late trade, Renault SA (PA:RENA) which lost 6.48% to settle at 20.91 and WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) which was down 6.42% to 51.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 438 to 128 and 86 ended unchanged.

Shares in Albioma SA (PA:ABIO) rose to 5-year highs; up 1.97% or 0.70 to 36.25.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 11.58% to 33.90.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.27% or 4.75 to $1777.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.68% or 1.89 to hit $38.48 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 4.46% or 1.90 to trade at $40.73 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.25% to 1.1278, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.9060.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 96.963.
