Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.75%, while the SBF 120 index lost 1.71%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Danone SA (PA:DANO), which rose 0.56% or 0.32 points to trade at 57.84 at the close. Meanwhile, Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) added 0.34% or 0.06 points to end at 17.56 and Orange SA (PA:ORAN) was down 0.19% or 0.02 points to 9.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 7.33% or 2.28 points to trade at 28.84 at the close. Alstom SA (PA:ALSO) declined 5.03% or 1.67 points to end at 31.50 and Stellantis NV (PA:STLA) was down 3.59% or 0.67 points to 18.11.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which rose 1.67% to 8.27, Remy Cointreau (PA:RCOP) which was up 0.72% to settle at 195.10 and Soitec SA (PA:SOIT) which gained 0.66% to close at 168.70.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which was down 7.33% to 28.84 in late trade, Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which lost 6.59% to settle at 8.075 and Verallia (PA:VRLA) which was down 6.26% to 27.84 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 436 to 126 and 83 ended unchanged.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 52-week low.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.52% or 9.50 to $1833.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.65% or 0.56 to hit $84.99 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.73 to trade at $87.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.32% to 1.1346, while EUR/GBP rose 0.66% to 0.8369.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 95.595.
