Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 1.32%, while the SBF 120 index fell 1.16%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Veolia Environnement VE SA (PA:VIE), which rose 2.10% or 0.41 points to trade at 20.13 at the close. Meanwhile, STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) added 0.91% or 0.24 points to end at 26.71 and Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) was up 0.79% or 0.56 points to 71.04 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Accor SA (PA:ACCP), which fell 4.43% or 1.08 points to trade at 23.32 at the close. Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (PA:MICP) declined 3.16% or 3.06 points to end at 93.78 and Total SA (PA:TOTF) was down 3.14% or 1.06 points to 32.70.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Orpea SA (PA:ORP) which rose 7.42% to 108.60, Ipsen SA (PA:IPN) which was up 4.94% to settle at 81.85 and Sartorius Stedim Biotech SA (PA:STDM) which gained 3.63% to close at 268.00.

The worst performers were Genfit (PA:GNFT) which was down 5.30% to 4.65 in late trade, Valeo SA (PA:VLOF) which lost 5.08% to settle at 23.00 and Accor SA (PA:ACCP) which was down 4.43% to 23.32 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 336 to 222 and 99 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 1.85% to 23.86 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.14% or 21.05 to $1864.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.21% or 0.09 to hit $41.83 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.16 to trade at $44.16 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.45% to 1.1578, while EUR/GBP rose 0.42% to 0.9089.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 94.862.
