Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 12.28% to hit a new 3-years low, while the SBF 120 index lost 12.33%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS), which fell 5.82% or 34.60 points to trade at 560.00 at the close. Meanwhile, EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX) fell 7.17% or 7.80 points to end at 101.00 and L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) was down 7.27% or 16.70 points to 213.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Renault SA (PA:RENA), which fell 21.94% or 4.59 points to trade at 16.33 at the close. WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) declined 21.61% or 19.44 points to end at 70.50 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) was down 18.51% or 1.71 points to 7.54.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were CGG SA (PA:GEPH) which fell 4.97% to 1.081, Biomerieux SA (PA:BIOX) which was down 5.15% to settle at 78.25 and Euronext (PA:ENX) which lost 5.24% to close at 67.85.

The worst performers were Europcar Groupe SA (PA:EUCAR) which was down 29.07% to 1.63 in late trade, Renault SA (PA:RENA) which lost 21.94% to settle at 16.33 and WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) which was down 21.61% to 70.50 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 623 to 19 and 32 ended unchanged.

Shares in Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.82% or 34.60 to 560.00. Shares in Renault SA (PA:RENA) fell to 5-year lows; down 21.94% or 4.59 to 16.33. Shares in WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) fell to 5-year lows; falling 21.61% or 19.44 to 70.50. Shares in L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) fell to 52-week lows; down 7.27% or 16.70 to 213.00. Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) fell to 3-years lows; down 18.51% or 1.71 to 7.54. Shares in CGG SA (PA:GEPH) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.97% or 0.057 to 1.081. Shares in Europcar Groupe SA (PA:EUCAR) fell to all time lows; losing 29.07% or 0.67 to 1.63. Shares in Renault SA (PA:RENA) fell to 5-year lows; losing 21.94% or 4.59 to 16.33. Shares in WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) fell to 5-year lows; losing 21.61% or 19.44 to 70.50.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 28.54% to 59.87 a new 5-year high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 2.92% or 48.00 to $1594.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 5.64% or 1.86 to hit $31.12 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 7.88% or 2.82 to trade at $32.97 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.71% to 1.1187, while EUR/GBP rose 0.90% to 0.8864.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.93% at 97.392.
