Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.75%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.72%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Carrefour SA (PA:CARR), which rose 1.15% or 0.15 points to trade at 13.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP) added 0.97% or 1.30 points to end at 135.90 and EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX) was up 0.39% or 0.50 points to 127.30 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Societe Generale SA (PA:SOGN), which fell 2.90% or 0.53 points to trade at 17.76 at the close. BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) declined 2.39% or 1.09 points to end at 44.65 and Kering SA (PA:PRTP) was down 2.29% or 13.80 points to 588.10.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Elior Group (PA:ELIOR) which rose 2.50% to 5.95, Eutelsat Communications SA (PA:ETL) which was up 2.24% to settle at 9.50 and Air France KLM SA (PA:AIRF) which gained 2.09% to close at 5.36.

The worst performers were Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which was down 3.04% to 12.76 in late trade, Ipsos (PA:ISOS) which lost 2.94% to settle at 28.10 and Societe Generale SA (PA:SOGN) which was down 2.90% to 17.76 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 318 to 274 and 80 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 17.87% to 23.99.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.48% or 27.23 to $1867.23 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.82% or 0.38 to hit $45.88 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.73% or 0.36 to trade at $48.89 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.10% to 1.2132, while EUR/GBP rose 1.01% to 0.9113.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.810.
