Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Gas & Water, General Financial and Foods & Drugs sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.21%, while the SBF 120 index declined 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Thales (EPA:TCFP), which rose 1.27% or 1.50 points to trade at 119.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Sanofi SA (EPA:SASY) added 1.23% or 1.09 points to end at 90.02 and Veolia Environnement VE SA (EPA:VIE) was up 1.07% or 0.27 points to 25.39 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 4.35% or 1.14 points to trade at 25.04 at the close. Carrefour SA (EPA:CARR) declined 3.79% or 0.62 points to end at 15.61 and Vinci SA (EPA:SGEF) was down 2.02% or 1.97 points to 95.48.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Euroapi SAS (EPA:EAPI) which rose 3.47% to 14.32, Valeo SA (EPA:VLOF) which was up 2.94% to settle at 17.52 and Mercialys SA (EPA:MERY) which gained 2.07% to close at 9.87.

The worst performers were Mcphy Energy (EPA:MCPHY) which was down 4.87% to 12.90 in late trade, Aperam SA (AS:APAM) which lost 4.60% to settle at 29.24 and Antin Infrastructure Partners SASU (EPA:ANTIN) which was down 4.50% to 22.52 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 284 to 244 and 93 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.33% or 5.95 to $1,819.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.90% or 2.19 to hit $77.58 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.65% or 2.14 to trade at $82.82 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.07, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.29% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 103.39.
