Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 2.22% to hit a new 1-month high, while the SBF 120 index climbed 2.29%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which rose 12.65% or 1.21 points to trade at 10.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR) added 10.42% or 5.51 points to end at 58.39 and Renault SA (PA:RENA) was up 7.89% or 1.43 points to 19.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sanofi SA (PA:SASY), which fell 1.62% or 1.49 points to trade at 90.70 at the close. Dassault Systemes SE (PA:DAST) declined 0.80% or 1.10 points to end at 136.20 and Orange SA (PA:ORAN) was down 0.44% or 0.05 points to 11.20.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Spie SA (PA:SPIE) which rose 15.68% to 13.50, Elis Services SA (PA:ELIS) which was up 13.08% to settle at 10.68 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which gained 12.65% to close at 10.75.

The worst performers were GTT (PA:GTT) which was down 4.29% to 68.00 in late trade, Lagardere SCA (PA:LAGA) which lost 4.25% to settle at 15.10 and Ipsen SA (PA:IPN) which was down 3.93% to 64.85 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 396 to 193 and 74 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 9.74% to 27.81 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.57% or 9.85 to $1712.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 27.63% or 3.41 to hit $15.75 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 7.39% or 1.68 to trade at $24.42 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.28% to 1.0848, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.8724.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 99.830.
