Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 added 1.40% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index climbed 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Stellantis NV (PA:STLA), which rose 7.03% or 0.98 points to trade at 14.89 at the close. Meanwhile, Compagnie de Saint Gobain SA (PA:SGOB) added 4.94% or 2.62 points to end at 55.70 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) was up 4.92% or 1.22 points to 25.91 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Veolia Environnement VE SA (PA:VIE), which fell 1.00% or 0.26 points to trade at 25.74 at the close. WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) declined 0.46% or 0.32 points to end at 69.78 and Safran SA (PA:SAF) was down 0.23% or 0.28 points to 122.54.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were JC Decaux SA (PA:JCDX) which rose 7.66% to 23.04, Stellantis NV (PA:STLA) which was up 7.03% to settle at 14.89 and Eramet SA (PA:ERMT) which gained 6.32% to close at 64.80.
The worst performers were Valneva (PA:VLS) which was down 6.92% to 12.640 in late trade, Mercialys SA (PA:MERY) which lost 2.97% to settle at 10.46 and DBV Technologies (PA:DBV) which was down 2.19% to 10.95 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 400 to 194 and 67 ended unchanged.
Shares in Compagnie de Saint Gobain SA (PA:SGOB) rose to 5-year highs; rising 4.94% or 2.62 to 55.70. Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 4.92% or 1.22 to 25.91. Shares in JC Decaux SA (PA:JCDX) rose to 52-week highs; rising 7.66% or 1.64 to 23.04.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.46% or 8.25 to $1784.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.52% or 0.34 to hit $66.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.48 to trade at $69.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.09% to 1.2002, while EUR/GBP fell 0.27% to 0.8627.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 91.267.
