Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 1.24%, while the SBF 120 index climbed 1.24%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR), which rose 4.01% or 4.28 points to trade at 111.08 at the close. Meanwhile, Capgemini SE (PA:CAPP) added 3.62% or 7.40 points to end at 211.60 and Safran SA (PA:SAF) was up 2.97% or 3.02 points to 104.56 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Carrefour SA (PA:CARR), which fell 0.89% or 0.14 points to trade at 15.62 at the close. Engie SA (PA:ENGIE) declined 0.69% or 0.09 points to end at 12.86 and Eurofins Scientific SE (PA:EUFI) was down 0.24% or 0.26 points to 107.94.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Ovh Groupe SAS (PA:OVH) which rose 6.97% to 23.25, Mcphy Energy (PA:MCPHY) which was up 6.85% to settle at 21.06 and Valneva (PA:VLS) which gained 6.12% to close at 26.020.

The worst performers were Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which was down 0.92% to 8.660 in late trade, Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) which lost 0.89% to settle at 15.62 and Engie SA (PA:ENGIE) which was down 0.69% to 12.86 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 420 to 203 and 84 ended unchanged.

Shares in Ovh Groupe SAS (PA:OVH) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.97% or 1.51 to 23.25.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 11.55 to $1800.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.48% or 1.05 to hit $72.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.07% or 0.79 to trade at $74.75 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.41% to 1.1329, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8482.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 96.085.
