France stocks higher at close of trade; CAC 40 up 1.12%

Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 1.12%, while the SBF 120 index climbed 1.03%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which rose 5.07% or 1.39 points to trade at 28.81 at the close. Meanwhile, Stellantis NV (PA:STLA) added 3.25% or 0.53 points to end at 16.83 and TotalEnergies SE (PA:TTEF) was up 3.21% or 1.39 points to 44.67 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM), which fell 1.71% or 0.73 points to trade at 41.90 at the close. WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) declined 0.96% or 0.55 points to end at 56.93 and Dassault Systemes SE (PA:DAST) was down 0.74% or 0.39 points to 52.32.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Valneva (PA:VLS) which rose 16.19% to 25.980, Eramet SA (PA:ERMT) which was up 7.21% to settle at 73.60 and Sopra Steria Group SA (PA:SOPR) which gained 5.14% to close at 153.50.

The worst performers were Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which was down 15.46% to 10.04 in late trade, Getlink SE (PA:GETP) which lost 1.99% to settle at 13.55 and STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) which was down 1.71% to 41.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 369 to 243 and 79 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.92% or 33.95 to $1798.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.03% or 1.44 to hit $72.31 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.16 to trade at $75.04 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.29% to 1.1318, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.8498.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 96.025.
