Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 0.74% to hit a new 6-months high, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.73%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STM), which rose 8.19% or 3.23 points to trade at 42.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Vivendi SA (EPA:VIV) added 2.86% or 0.27 points to end at 9.79 and Alstom SA (EPA:ALSO) was up 2.61% or 0.69 points to 27.14 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pernod Ricard SA (EPA:PERP), which fell 2.85% or 5.50 points to trade at 187.65 at the close. EssilorLuxottica SA (EPA:ESLX) declined 1.96% or 3.35 points to end at 167.90 and Danone SA (EPA:DANO) was down 1.20% or 0.60 points to 49.20.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were STMicroelectronics NV (EPA:STM) which rose 8.19% to 42.68, Sartorius Stedim Biotech SA (EPA:STDM) which was up 7.37% to settle at 327.70 and Atos SE (EPA:ATOS) which gained 2.96% to close at 11.82.
The worst performers were Elior Group (EPA:ELIOR) which was down 14.41% to 3.30 in late trade, SES Imagotag (EPA:SESL) which lost 4.92% to settle at 112.00 and Pernod Ricard SA (EPA:PERP) which was down 2.85% to 187.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 299 to 234 and 91 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.81% or 15.75 to $1,926.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.68% or 1.35 to hit $81.50 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.71% or 1.47 to trade at $87.59 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.46% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.23% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 101.84.
