Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 added 0.68% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.68%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Atos SE (PA:ATOS), which rose 3.00% or 1.90 points to trade at 65.32 at the close. Meanwhile, Societe Generale SA (PA:SOGN) added 2.71% or 0.69 points to end at 26.00 and BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) was up 2.16% or 0.94 points to 44.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 4.78% or 0.706 points to trade at 14.066 at the close. Dassault Systemes SE (PA:DAST) declined 1.63% or 2.15 points to end at 129.95 and Capgemini SE (PA:CAPP) was down 0.97% or 1.05 points to 106.95.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Television Francaise 1 SA (PA:TFFP) which rose 4.33% to 8.680, Natixis (PA:CNAT) which was up 3.65% to settle at 3.857 and Iliad (PA:ILD) which gained 3.24% to close at 80.24.

The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which was down 4.78% to 14.066 in late trade, Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which lost 2.32% to settle at 2.648 and Euronext (PA:ENX) which was down 1.74% to 70.45 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 351 to 202 and 95 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 3.64% to 14.42.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.58% or 8.75 to $1507.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.88% or 0.51 to hit $58.55 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.71% or 1.09 to trade at $64.69 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.16% to 1.1046, while EUR/GBP rose 0.05% to 0.8844.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 97.950.
