Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.55% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Carrefour SA (PA:CARR), which rose 2.48% or 0.41 points to trade at 16.98 at the close. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric SE (PA:SCHN) added 2.33% or 3.46 points to end at 152.26 and Vivendi SA (PA:VIV) was up 1.62% or 0.48 points to 30.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alstom SA (PA:ALSO), which fell 1.73% or 0.62 points to trade at 35.32 at the close. Worldline SA (PA:WLN) declined 1.18% or 0.92 points to end at 76.94 and Pernod Ricard SA (PA:PERP) was down 1.12% or 2.10 points to 184.75.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Eramet SA (PA:ERMT) which rose 3.82% to 70.60, Verallia (PA:VRLA) which was up 2.97% to settle at 32.54 and Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) which gained 2.48% to close at 16.98.
The worst performers were Valneva (PA:VLS) which was down 2.84% to 10.600 in late trade, Mcphy Energy (PA:MCPHY) which lost 2.80% to settle at 15.95 and Remy Cointreau (PA:RCOP) which was down 2.30% to 178.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 327 to 265 and 85 ended unchanged.
Shares in Schneider Electric SE (PA:SCHN) rose to all time highs; rising 2.33% or 3.46 to 152.26. Shares in Eramet SA (PA:ERMT) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.82% or 2.60 to 70.60.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.24% or 21.55 to $1753.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.95% or 0.65 to hit $67.64 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.69 to trade at $69.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.16% to 1.1737, while EUR/GBP rose 0.04% to 0.8465.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 92.930.
