Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.46% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APHA), which rose 7.73% or 0.540 points to trade at 7.530 at the close. Meanwhile, Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) added 7.11% or 2.23 points to end at 33.59 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was up 4.15% or 8.100 points to 203.230 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which fell 7.69% or 0.100 points to trade at 1.200 at the close. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) declined 7.39% or 5.25 points to end at 65.83 and Exchange Income Corporation (TO:EIF) was down 6.93% or 2.010 points to 27.010.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 889 to 276 and 110 ended unchanged.
Shares in Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.69% or 0.100 to 1.200. Shares in Badger Daylighting Ltd. (TO:BAD) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.11% or 2.23 to 33.59. Shares in Exchange Income Corporation (TO:EIF) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.93% or 2.010 to 27.010.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.27% to 18.29.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.21% or 2.65 to $1249.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.38% or 1.78 to hit $50.83 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.89% or 1.78 to trade at $59.89 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.53% to 0.7465, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6575.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 97.178.
