Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.24% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES), which rose 3.12% or 0.36 points to trade at 11.89 at the close. Meanwhile, Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) added 2.87% or 3.67 points to end at 131.41 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 2.82% or 0.20 points to 7.28 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which fell 7.71% or 0.37 points to trade at 4.43 at the close. Boyd Group Services Inc (TSX:BYD) declined 3.58% or 9.61 points to end at 258.80 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) was down 3.31% or 0.09 points to 2.63.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 691 to 281 and 94 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.87% or 3.67 to 131.41.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.81% to 10.02.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.66% or 15.45 to $2,333.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.23% or 1.74 to hit $79.79 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 1.74 to trade at $84.36 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.19% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 104.95.
