Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which rose 7.89% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.24 at the close. Meanwhile, Raging River Exploration Inc. (TO:RRX) added 7.88% or 0.42 points to end at 5.75 and Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) was up 4.32% or 0.41 points to 9.89 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which fell 6.55% or 0.360 points to trade at 5.140 at the close. Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) declined 5.81% or 0.29 points to end at 4.70 and New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) was down 5.80% or 0.080 points to 1.300.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 583 to 455 and 156 ended unchanged.
Shares in IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.55% or 0.360 to 5.140. Shares in Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) fell to all time lows; down 5.81% or 0.29 to 4.70.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.18% to 12.07.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.96% or 11.50 to $1191.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $67.87 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $74.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.64% to 0.7645, while CAD/EUR fell 0.17% to 0.6624.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.57% at 95.54.
