Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.36%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Africa Oil Corp (TSX:AOI), which rose 10.34% or 0.24 points to trade at 2.56 at the close. Meanwhile, Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) added 6.47% or 0.38 points to end at 6.25 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 6.13% or 1.05 points to 18.18 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Osisko Gold Ro (TSX:OR), which fell 5.39% or 1.21 points to trade at 21.26 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) declined 4.94% or 0.41 points to end at 7.89 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) was down 4.92% or 3.77 points to 72.86.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 672 to 286 and 77 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 19.98% to 9.05.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.63% or 14.70 to $2,345.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.16% or 0.94 to hit $81.67 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.86 to trade at $85.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.19% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 105.14.
