Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Materials and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.82% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which rose 10.76% or 0.78 points to trade at 8.03 at the close. Meanwhile, CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX:CEU) added 10.66% or 0.90 points to end at 9.40 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) was up 10.38% or 1.35 points to 14.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB), which fell 16.89% or 1.14 points to trade at 5.61 at the close. SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) declined 13.27% or 1.14 points to end at 7.42 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was down 5.70% or 6.05 points to 100.09.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 550 to 345 and 112 ended unchanged.
Shares in Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) fell to 5-year lows; losing 16.89% or 1.14 to 5.61. Shares in CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX:CEU) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 10.66% or 0.90 to 9.40.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.52% to 11.19.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.43% or 38.20 to $2,714.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.59% or 0.42 to hit $72.11 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.55 to trade at $75.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.63% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 104.24.
