Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Materials and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.72%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which rose 11.45% or 0.530 points to trade at 5.160 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 6.10% or 0.80 points to end at 13.92 and Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT) was up 6.06% or 1.31 points to 22.93 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA), which fell 13.51% or 0.350 points to trade at 2.240 at the close. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 8.11% or 0.92 points to end at 10.43 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) was down 8.06% or 1.89 points to 21.56.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 665 to 435 and 99 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.91% to 14.17.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.96% or 29.05 to $1513.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.41% or 1.29 to hit $52.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.08 to trade at $57.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.02% to 0.7516, while CAD/EUR fell 0.05% to 0.6707.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.445.
