Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 10.45% or 0.300 points to trade at 3.170 at the close. Meanwhile, Just Energy Group Inc . (TO:JE) added 7.92% or 0.51 points to end at 6.95 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was up 7.80% or 0.170 points to 2.350 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD), which fell 4.44% or 0.28 points to trade at 6.03 at the close. Surge Energy Inc . (TO:SGY) declined 3.39% or 0.100 points to end at 2.850 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG) was down 3.35% or 0.60 points to 17.31.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 613 to 517 and 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.80% or 0.170 to 2.350.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.57% to 15.17.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.25 to $1256.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.98% or 0.50 to hit $50.29 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.53 to trade at $51.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7542, while CAD/EUR rose 0.45% to 0.6850.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 97.96.
