Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 9.33% or 0.140 points to trade at 1.640 at the close. Meanwhile, Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX) added 4.86% or 1.71 points to end at 36.93 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was up 4.69% or 6.130 points to 136.820 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which fell 8.42% or 1.900 points to trade at 20.670 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) declined 4.05% or 0.160 points to end at 3.790 and Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) was down 3.97% or 0.110 points to 2.660.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 654 to 413 and 138 ended unchanged.
Shares in Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) rose to all time highs; up 4.69% or 6.130 to 136.820.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 14.43% to 10.91 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.42% or 5.56 to $1313.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.99% or 0.46 to hit $45.98 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.03 to trade at $50.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.85% to 0.7919, while CAD/EUR fell 0.19% to 0.6663.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 92.86.
