Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Summit Industrial Income REIT (TSX:SMU_u), which rose 3.66% or 0.46 points to trade at 13.03 at the close. Meanwhile, Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) added 3.51% or 0.450 points to end at 13.280 and TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG) was up 2.78% or 0.11 points to 4.06 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP), which fell 6.57% or 3.02 points to trade at 42.93 at the close. Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX:ESI) declined 4.29% or 0.22 points to end at 4.91 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was down 4.19% or 0.090 points to 2.060.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 523 to 509 and 134 ended unchanged.
Shares in Summit Industrial Income REIT (TSX:SMU_u) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 3.66% or 0.46 to 13.03.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 17.93% to 12.27.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.45% or 5.95 to $1339.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.88% or 1.49 to hit $53.17 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $62.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7482, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6635.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 96.987.
