Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and REIT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Capstone Mining Corp. (TO:CS), which rose 12.82% or 0.150 points to trade at 1.320 at the close. Meanwhile, Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TO:PRE) added 11.35% or 0.32 points to end at 3.14 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM) was up 10.45% or 1.42 points to 15.01 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Autocanada Inc (TO:ACQ), which fell 21.03% or 8.99 points to trade at 33.75 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) declined 10.93% or 2.26 points to end at 18.41 and Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE) was down 4.72% or 1.74 points to 35.13.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 866 to 575 and 183 ended unchanged.
Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to 3-year lows; down 10.93% or 2.26 to 18.41.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 9.83% to 14.96.
Gold for April delivery was up 1.16% or 13.60 to $1182.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in May rose 1.72% or 0.79 to hit $46.31 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.62 to trade at $55.05 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.16% to 0.7956, while CAD/EUR fell 0.35% to 0.7354.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.36% at 98.09.
