Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Consumer Staples and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Badger Daylighting Ltd. (TO:BAD), which rose 15.72% or 3.49 points to trade at 25.69 at the close. Meanwhile, Athabasca Oil Corporation (TO:ATH) added 8.38% or 0.14 points to end at 1.81 and Norbord Inc. (TO:NBD) was up 6.56% or 1.64 points to 26.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS), which fell 8.62% or 0.15 points to trade at 1.59 at the close. China Gold International Resources (TO:CGG) declined 6.99% or 0.10 points to end at 1.33 and Amaya Gaming Group Inc (TO:AYA) was down 6.81% or 2.09 points to 28.58.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 729 to 662 and 172 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS) fell to all time lows; losing 8.62% or 0.15 to 1.59. Shares in China Gold International Resources (TO:CGG) fell to 3-year lows; falling 6.99% or 0.10 to 1.33.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 3.26% to 16.89.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.43% or 5.00 to $1148.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in May fell 2.51% or 1.16 to hit $44.97 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.47 to trade at $53.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7817, while CAD/EUR fell 0.34% to 0.7383.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 100.03.
