Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Basic Materials and Consumption sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.46% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 4.07% or 0.57 points to trade at 14.57 at the close. Meanwhile, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 3.56% or 0.85 points to end at 24.74 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 1.71% or 0.38 points to 22.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which fell 9.15% or 1.84 points to trade at 18.27 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) declined 8.07% or 1.87 points to end at 21.29 and Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA:SMLS3) was down 6.17% or 4.68 points to 71.12.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 261 to 215 and 35 ended unchanged.
Shares in Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 3.56% or 0.85 to 24.74.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.00% to 28.24.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1314.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.36% or 0.25 to hit $69.97 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.83% or 2.25 to trade at $120.72 .
USD/BRL was up 0.64% to 3.5509, while EUR/BRL rose 0.34% to 4.2342.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 92.61.
