Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB3), which rose 5.49% or 1.25 points to trade at 24.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 3.64% or 2.52 points to end at 71.75 and MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) was up 2.65% or 0.43 points to 16.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which fell 7.36% or 2.03 points to trade at 25.57 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) declined 6.86% or 1.68 points to end at 22.80 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) was down 3.21% or 0.86 points to 25.96.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 272 to 178 and 33 ended unchanged.
Shares in Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB3) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.49% or 1.25 to 24.00. Shares in Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) rose to all time highs; rising 3.64% or 2.52 to 71.75. Shares in MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.65% or 0.43 to 16.65.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 7.38% to 26.47 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.13% or 1.70 to $1325.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.33% or 0.20 to hit $60.91 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.13% or 0.16 to trade at $121.12 .
USD/BRL was up 0.09% to 3.2633, while EUR/BRL fell 0.10% to 4.0359.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 89.74.
