Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 3.87% or 0.32 points to trade at 8.59 at the close. Meanwhile, Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 2.37% or 0.45 points to end at 19.45 and WEG SA (SA:WEGE3) was up 2.29% or 0.50 points to 22.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4), which fell 4.07% or 1.09 points to trade at 25.70 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 3.31% or 1.15 points to end at 33.62 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was down 2.54% or 0.15 points to 5.75.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 211 to 188 and 23 ended unchanged.
Shares in Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 2.37% or 0.45 to 19.45. Shares in WEG SA (SA:WEGE3) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.29% or 0.50 to 22.35.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.38% to 29.17 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.39% or 5.15 to $1333.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.85% or 0.42 to hit $49.72 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.12% or 0.17 to trade at $137.82 .
USD/BRL was down 0.50% to 3.1193, while EUR/BRL fell 0.32% to 3.7142.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 92.09.
