Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 1.22% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 13.70% or 1.24 points to trade at 10.29 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 12.02% or 0.90 points to end at 8.39 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was up 9.98% or 0.43 points to 4.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which fell 4.50% or 0.500 points to trade at 10.600 at the close. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 4.49% or 0.63 points to end at 13.41 and Souza Cruz SA (SA:CRUZ3) was down 4.04% or 1.10 points to 26.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 163 to 112 and 5 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.58% to 32.53.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.46% or 5.40 to $1192.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.26% or 0.15 to hit $60.73 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.02% or 0.03 to trade at $133.32 .
USD/BRL was down 0.83% to 3.0598, while EUR/BRL fell 0.46% to 3.4240.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 95.27.
