Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 2.01% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which rose 49.30% or 7.00 points to trade at 21.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) added 32.08% or 5.72 points to end at 23.55 and CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) was up 8.58% or 0.68 points to 8.61 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which fell 1.11% or 0.08 points to trade at 7.10 at the close. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 0.66% or 0.15 points to end at 22.55 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was down 0.57% or 0.10 points to 17.55.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 250 to 129 and 46 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.03% to 25.85.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.42% or 5.40 to $1291.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.17% or 0.08 to hit $47.61 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.59% or 0.77 to trade at $129.30 .
USD/BRL was up 0.09% to 3.1681, while EUR/BRL fell 0.36% to 3.7265.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 93.42.
