Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.74% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 8.56% or 0.50 points to trade at 6.34 at the close. Meanwhile, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 7.87% or 0.98 points to end at 13.43 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 7.33% or 0.36 points to 5.27 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which fell 1.66% or 0.180 points to trade at 10.670 at the close. ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) declined 1.18% or 0.02 points to end at 1.68 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was down 0.99% or 0.43 points to 43.07.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 189 to 86 and 3 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.94% to 33.85 a new 1-month low.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.81% or 9.70 to $1202.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.96% or 2.65 to hit $55.94 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.27% or 1.70 to trade at $135.85 .
USD/BRL was down 0.87% to 3.0351, while EUR/BRL fell 0.58% to 3.2435.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 98.55.
