Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were WEG SA (SA:WEGE3), which rose 4.86% or 0.78 points to trade at 16.83 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) added 4.74% or 0.63 points to end at 13.93 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) was up 4.02% or 0.92 points to 23.82 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which fell 4.19% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.43 at the close. Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) declined 1.39% or 0.83 points to end at 58.81 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) was down 0.69% or 0.36 points to 51.72.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 231 to 121 and 35 ended unchanged.
Shares in Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.02% or 0.92 to 23.82.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.43% to 32.96.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $1325.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.41% or 0.67 to hit $46.97 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.40 to trade at $144.90 .
USD/BRL was down 1.08% to 3.2325, while EUR/BRL fell 1.14% to 3.6158.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 95.54.
