Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which rose 6.24% or 1.23 points to trade at 20.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) added 5.46% or 1.31 points to end at 25.30 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA:GOLL4) was up 4.14% or 0.56 points to 14.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA:SMLS3), which fell 38.92% or 20.17 points to trade at 31.66 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 5.91% or 1.34 points to end at 21.32 and Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3) was down 3.70% or 1.49 points to 38.73.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 249 to 222 and 37 ended unchanged.
Shares in Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA:SMLS3) fell to 52-week lows; falling 38.92% or 20.17 to 31.66.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.15% to 40.84 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.71% or 8.70 to $1230.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.46% or 0.33 to hit $71.67 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 2.44% or 2.83 to trade at $119.05 .
USD/BRL was down 1.20% to 3.7378, while EUR/BRL fell 1.06% to 4.3269.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 94.75.
