Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.07% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 6.40% or 1.34 points to trade at 22.29 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 4.33% or 0.78 points to end at 18.78 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 3.64% or 0.43 points to 12.23 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which fell 1.93% or 0.95 points to trade at 48.40 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB3) declined 1.74% or 0.33 points to end at 18.64 and BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) was down 1.52% or 0.19 points to 12.32.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 232 to 171 and 48 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.11% to 25.45.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.64% or 8.10 to $1278.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.31% or 1.60 to trade at $120.45 .
USD/BRL was up 0.92% to 3.3391, while EUR/BRL rose 0.79% to 3.9593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.90.
