Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.72%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.82%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC), which rose 3.51% or 17.60 points to trade at 519.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) added 2.93% or 10.65 points to end at 373.80 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 2.87% or 5.60 points to 200.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which fell 1.11% or 10.40 points to trade at 929.85 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 1.05% or 301.70 points to end at 28445.20 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 0.99% or 6.65 points to 667.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 3.43% to 519.30, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was up 3.05% to settle at 373.70 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.94% to close at 519.90.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.17% to 929.45 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.77% to settle at 525.05 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 0.76% to 2656.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 886 to 676 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1466 fell and 1154 advanced, while 156 ended unchanged.

Shares in Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) rose to all time highs; rising 2.93% or 10.65 to 373.80. The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.63% to 10.6275.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.31% or 3.92 to $1252.58 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.33% or 0.15 to hit $45.12 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.19 to trade at $47.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.09% to 64.407, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 72.1530.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 96.83.
