Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Banking, Green Energy and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 2.05%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 0.29% or 2.45 points to trade at 859.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR) added 0.22% or 1.25 points to end at 557.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 0.20% or 1.75 points to 880.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO), which fell 6.18% or 24.85 points to trade at 377.05 at the close. Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) declined 5.31% or 7.60 points to end at 135.60 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) was down 4.94% or 7.85 points to 151.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which rose 0.28% to 557.95, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.10% to settle at 144.55 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.07% to close at 857.15.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 6.10% to 377.15 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 4.71% to settle at 80.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 4.10% to 326.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 996 to 482 and 4 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 577 fell and 224 advanced, while 6 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 18.06% to 16.8350.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.12% or 11.90 to $1072.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.15% or 0.42 to hit $37.47 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 0.70 to trade at $37.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.42% to 66.510, while EUR/INR rose 1.05% to 72.6510.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.49% at 98.29.
